Starting July 5, 2011–This workshop is an introduction to the basics of weaving. Using a portable 2-heddle loom (bring your own or purchase one from us), you will learn how to set up a loom with the warp and how to make a plain weave piece in mixed textures or colors. The first project will be a sampler and you will probably be able to complete two projects.
Saturday, July 9 (9:30am – 12:30 pm) with Claire Watson Garcia. Everyone can enjoy learning how to use this loose and spontaneous style of drawing. Absolutely no prior art experience is required! Learning to sketch is a joy in itself, however the sketching line is also an accuracy tool. Learn how to use it to design and conceptualize your work in “try out” form before you commit to larger 3-D work with more costly materials.
July 11 – August 15, 6 Monday evenings, 6pm-9pm
Students will create lidded vessels with sculptural additions. Pieces will be wheel thrown or hand built depending on students prior experience. Handles and decorative elements will be added to the pieces. Each work will be unique with the student’s individual vision shining through.
From sea life and birds, to creatures that roam the land, animals have been a favorite item for glass workers for many years. This class will introduce you to the skills that will produce small and medium size figures at the torch. Students will leave with the basic knowledge on how to work with hot glass rods and construct such figures. This one day workshop is a great idea for anyone with an interest in working with glass, and a love for animals.
This 4-week session is particularly useful for the newer turner who needs to build their turning skills. In a directed lab format, students will be able to draw upon instructor experience and receive advice and instruction appropriate to their skill and interests.
This is a beginning level class for students with little or no previous turning experience. All aspects of beginning turning will be covered: lathe safety, wood preparation, tool selection and use, basic design, sanding and finishing. Students can expect to complete two bowls during the class. Registration closes June 22.
Here is your chance to work in 3 different mediums in one class! In 7 weeks each student will create multiple bowls and develop a new love of mediums they may never have tried before. Hurry… space is limited to just 6 students: the registration has been extended until June 22.
