Say It Loud!

Call Description
The Brookfield Craft Center invites LGBTQIA+ artists to submit works letting us know what they want to say for Say It Loud! Usually when we have a call to artists, we have a theme, and we request works speaking to specific topics. This year we feel that there is so much to speak about that we would like to hear what you have to tell us.
Say It Loud! is a juried show which will run from July 26th through August 24th and is open to all local LGBTQIA+ artists who design and create their own work in any of the following categories: Clay/Ceramic, Drawing, Fiber, Glass, Jewelry, Metal, Painting, Photography, Printmaking, Sculpture, Wood, Video.
For the purposes of this exhibition, local is considered to be close enough to Brookfield, CT that you can deliver and pick up your own work.
Work does not need to be newly created. It can be a piece that was created years ago with a message that is still relevant or that has a message that has changed with current events.
Say It Loud! is guest curated by Nora O’Neill. Nora is co-chair of Bethel CT Pride. She’s the one that gets to be in Pride’s promo videos jumping out of bushes or throwing disco balls. She/sir, ace, butch. She has exhibited sculptures and paintings locally through Arts Western. She currently has a landscape sculpture installed at Jim Felice Studios in Bethel.

Entry Instructions
Submissions must be entered through the Entrythingy submission portal. Each entrant must create an Entrythingy username and password in order to complete their submission (if you have any challenges with this please call the Gallery Manager, Jillian Doherty 203-775-4526).
When considering your submission, please remember this will be an all ages show. Non-sexual nudity or works dealing with violence are permitted, but neither type should cross over into explicit or graphic territory. If you wish to address those subjects, consider works that place the focus before or after the graphic moment. Adults will be able to fill in the missing context, while younger viewers will not. They will still be able to experience the work and have questions about it without experiencing that moment itself.
Each applicant may submit up to three pieces of work to be included in the jury process. Applicants must submit an artist statement as part of their Profile. Each piece needs a description of work which should include the category and what you would like to tell us with the piece. Please ignore the prompt to create a new entry if your pieces are in different categories and submit all 3 in the same entry. You will need to choose a category for the entry, but please also note the category in the piece description.

Note: dependent on the number of entries, only one piece of work may be selected for the exhibition. Accepted artwork must be delivered to Brookfield Craft Center by July 11th. Please list dimensions of 2D work including frame. Ceiling height in the gallery is 8 feet. Work should be less than 7 feet in height. In order to fit through the door, 3D works must be less than 33 inches wide and less than 7ft tall, or can otherwise be disassembled and reassembled.
