Art Show: March 12 – April 2, 2016
The Brookfield Craft Center’s Studio Gallery will showcase local artists in its first annual High School Student Art Exhibit from March 12-April 2, 2016. Dozens of students from local high schools will display their work in a wide-range of media including ceramics, video, painting, photography, and more. The show is a juried event and awards will be given across media and for best-in-show. An opening reception with refreshments on March 12th from 5-8pm will give the community an opportunity to recognize and meet the artists and awardees.
“Young students are a core focus at the Center as we expand and grow,” said Executive Director Howard Lasser. “Our opportunity to recognize emerging talent and creativity through an annual event helps support local art programs and introduces a wider audience to the Craft Center community. We’re excited about the response from our schools and are amazed by the quality of the work submitted. I hope everyone comes out to see the art our talented kids are creating.”
Artists were invited to participate by their schools, but specific art classes and programs were not required for consideration. A jury of noted community members, artists, and educators evaluated all the submissions and finalists in making the awards.
Over the last year, the Brookfield Craft Center has expanded programs for youth through the growing “Hands-On Art” summer camps, special events from Scouts, and internships with local students.
The Student Exhibit opens March 12 with the opening reception in the Lynn Tender Bignell Gallery, located at 286 Whisconier Road, Brookfield, CT.
