As a benefit of Brookfield Craft Center Membership, members are entitled to at least one free Members Only Mini Workshop, and some have already been scheduled. These workshops are for experimenting, making mistakes, trying something new, and, most importantly, having fun. You might just find your next artistic calling, but you will never know unless you give it a try! If your desired workshop is not yet scheduled or you cannot attend a scheduled workshop, please contact us with your availability.

Workshops for artists and art teachers

Kick start your career as an artist or teacher, or boost your creative skill set in a competitive job market with professional development Saturday and Sunday workshops at BCC in February and March.

Curator and artist consultant Camilla Cook, professional photographer Joe Larese, teacher and ceramicist George B. Davison and BCC Ed. Dir. Heather Lawless will guide you through artist statements, online portfolios, calls for submissions, photographing your work, social networking and integrating art into the classroom. Intermediate + Advanced Oil Painting with Souby Boski

Artist Souby Boski joins BCC faculty to offer Intermediate and Advanced Oil Painting, meeting Tuesday afternoons 1-4pm Jan. 31-Mar. 6, 2012 in the River Room studio. Souby has taught for years in Connecticut’s public school system and Adult Education, and is represented by Behnke Doherty Gallery in Washington Depot, CT.

Souby’s moments caught on canvas are inspired by passive time when the mind drifts. She states, “I am attempting to stir up the ‘essence’ of a remembered place, light on objects, a season or time of day…the majesty of a late afternoon sky just before the light changes and the moment is gone forever.”

Cloissoné Pendant by Sheila Beatty

Jewelry makes for personal and thoughtful gifts for the holidays. Sheila Beauty takes the ancient art form of cloissoné and creates contemporary works of art. Sheila says, “My small-scale jewelry pieces are miniature paintings, which, while mainly abstract, take inspiration from the natural world and from historical influences such as Art Nouveau.”

We have many pieces of Sheila’s cloissoné jewlery at our Holiday Sale.  Mon-Fri 11-6, Christmas Eve 10-3, closed Christmas Day, New Year’s Eve 10-3.

This handmade glass Tree of Life Menorah was created by BCC visiting instructor Bandhu Scott Dunham

Truly a master of borosilicate (or Pyrex) glass, Bandhu Scott Dunham of Salusa Glassworks handcrafted this exquisite menorah. We only have one of its kind in the Holiday Sale, so now is your chance to own it before the beginning of Hanukkah.

Bandhu will be joining us from the Southwest Feb 22-23, 2012 as a visiting instructor for a Masters Series glass workshop entitled Kinetic Glass Exploration. Space is limited to 8 students, so register early for a chance to learn from a living master.

The gallery is open 7 days a week until Christmas Eve.
